For thirty-five years I worked in the corporate world for a number of international luxury brands. I started at the bottom and spent fifteen exhausting years slowly slogging my way to the top. After that, I spent the next twenty-years working as General Manager for a number of major French and American companies.
Part of my success, I think, was because I was good at solving problems: there was always a constant voice in my head saying: ‘Good is not Good Enough!’
At the time, all the worry and effort, tottering about on crippling six-inch heels and clutching a Dior bag, seemed important. Now it doesn’t.
So, now I have ovarian cancer to deal with. I keep asking myself is, ‘How do I focus on fighting this illness and find meaning and purpose in the struggle? And how can I ‘brand’ ovarian cancer to create awareness? This blog is a start. I am also working with an innovative and creative curator and a highly-talented photographer to create a visual retrospective of my ‘journey’.
I want people to read about my experiences and share them with friends and family because it’s important to be aware of the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer. At the risk of sounding overly dramatic, this kind of knowledge could literally save your life.
And, finally, after being traumatised by the procedure to insert a catheter into my left kidney five days ago, it is now time to see if the doctors can replace the catheter with a stent. I’m nervous… again.
